Privacy Policy
Version 2, effective October 13, 2026
Upland Field Journal is made by Peter Lolos, Baker City, Oregon. Contact: policy@uplandfieldjournal.com.
Your journal stays on your phone
Your hunts, birds, hunters, dogs, guns, photos, videos, tracks and notes are stored only on your phone, whether or not you sign in. We never receive them, cannot see them and cannot recover them. Backups you make are files you control.
Accounts are optional
You can use the whole journal without an account. If you choose to sign in with Apple, we keep only these details about you:
- Username, which you choose.
- Display name, if you add one. Apple fills it in from your name the first time you sign in, if you share your name, and you can change or clear it.
- Email address that Apple gives us. This is either your real address or a Hide My Email address from Apple, your choice. It is kept private: never shown or searchable. We use it only for notices about your account.
- An Apple account identifier that Apple creates for this app, so you can sign in again. It is not your Apple Account password, and we never see your password.
- The policy version you agreed to and the date you agreed.
- When your account was created, and sign-in records kept by our host to run sign-in and keep it secure: the time, your device's IP address and the type of device or app.
We don't ask for your birth date, address, phone number, contacts or payment details. Nothing from your journal is uploaded when you sign in.
Today your username and display name are visible only to you. When sharing with friends is added, they will be what friends see, and this policy will be updated first.
Where account details are stored
Accounts are hosted by Supabase in its West US (Oregon) region. Supabase stores the details above for us and keeps short-lived technical logs. Supabase has its own privacy policy. Apple handles Sign in with Apple under its privacy policy.
Deleting your account
Delete account is on the Profile screen in the app. It deletes your account, username, display name and email from our servers, and ends this app's Sign in with Apple, so it no longer appears in your Apple Account's sign-in list. Your journal stays on your phone; to erase it, delete the app. Signing out, unlike deleting, leaves your account in place.
Sign-in records in our host's logs are not tied to a live account after deletion and are removed when those logs expire. You can also email us to delete your account.
When the app goes online
- To look up elevation, it sends a location's coordinates to the U.S. Geological Survey.
- To look up weather, it sends a location's coordinates to the National Weather Service.
- Maps in the app are loaded from Apple Maps.
- If you tap "Open in Apple Maps" or "Open in Google Maps", that location is sent to that service.
- If you add or play a YouTube link, the app contacts YouTube for that video.
- If you sign in, the app contacts Apple to sign you in and Supabase to keep your account.
These services have their own privacy policies.
Permissions
The app asks for your photo library (to add your pictures), your camera, and your location. Location is used only when you ask for a GPS stamp or a pin.
TestFlight
While you test the app, Apple collects crash logs, usage information, and your name and email if you were invited by email, and shares them with us. Feedback you send through TestFlight also goes to Apple. We use this only to improve the app.
Ads, tracking and selling
We don't sell or rent your information. Today the app shows no ads and uses no tracking or analytics tools. If that changes, we'll update this policy first and ask you to agree. We share account details only with the services above that run the app, or if the law requires it.
Features we may add
As the app grows we may add sharing with friends, content picked for you, ads based on how you use the app, and optional profile details such as age, sex or region. None of these is in the app today. Before any of them starts, this policy will describe what it uses and why, and the app will ask you to agree to the new version.
Age
Accounts are for people 13 and older. We don't knowingly keep account details of anyone younger; if we learn of one, we'll delete it. The journal itself needs no account.
Changes
If what the app collects changes, this page is updated first, and the app asks you to agree to the new version before you continue.
